Helplessness
by Kerry
Hardie from Selected Poems (Bloodaxe Books)
Oh, heart, why can’t you learn
that there is nothing to do in the world except live in it?
Why can’t you take its deep gifts
–
the birds and the cars in the
rain; lost keys and the broken-hearted?
I'm making my own list of deep gifts I've accepted today-- the wisdom of friends and mentors, a lemon tree, snow flurries, a migraine, and laundry that isn't going to wash itself.
What has the world given you today?
